Its garlic braiding time!
Who: you!
What: Garlic braids, of course!
Where: Silo and Seed Farm, Layton, Utah
When: Sunday, June 28, 5-8 pm
Join Jaleigh of Silo and Seed and Jo from Vecinos Marketplace to make a 7 bulb garlic braid with flowers and herbs. Whether for yourself or a gift, this beautiful braid is a traditional farm craft for storing garlic for the year.
This event includes an opportunity to spend time on the farm harvesting your own garlic, interacting with the farmer who grows everything herself, and of course some little snackies and (non alcoholic) bevs.
Aside from the garlic harvesting, we will be inside a building on the property. While there is no A/C, there will be fans and a space for further cooling if you are heat sensitive.
There is also a gorgeous sunset you will want to stay and enjoy from the hill above the farm.
About your farmer:
Meet Jaleigh Jensen
I'm a writer, farmer, and whatever I decide to be tomorrow. Following deep grief of losing both my parents tragically, I stepped away from marketing/corporate writing roles to return to what felt real — words, dirt, and my heart beating in my chest, my hands, my sweat. I fell into the art of growing and returned to the rhythm of the seasons as a way to ground myself. The plants come back, and so have I. I started Silo & Seed in 2024 as a way of rooting myself in the Salt Lake community. Using regenerative and organic practices, I grow flowers, vegetables, and herbs with deep attention to reciprocity and care. In Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer writes that sweetgrass grows where it's picked. In nurturing, pruning and picking dahlias and snapdragons, garlic and carrots, tomatoes and peppers, herbs and sunflowers, I've seen what it means for the land to love us back. It is an honor to care for her — and to care for this community.
